This enormous and well-known bull moose had just barely shed his velvet by the September morning that I found him. The early morning light set the field ablaze in color, and the bull paid no attention to my presence. He is an old bull, one who once was the unquestioned king of the rut in this area. His prime was behind him at this point, but he was still as impressive as ever.
