When I was a kid I often stayed awake at night, listening to the howl of coyotes, yet never saw the howlers. On the morning I took this photo, howling in nearby woods urged me to go looking for the source. Within a few minutes I located the coyote standing at the opposite end of a small field. The coyote gave me a glance, but continued howling so long as I kept my distance. I watched for a few minutes, then backtracked from where I came, the coyote still howling for another thirty minutes.
