I found these two moose in the predawn light on a crisp winter morning. I’d stopped at a field to watch one big bull moose laying in the snow. The temperature was hovering around zero, and the only sound was that of the nearby creek gurgling. Suddenly I heard the unmistakable clack of antlers, and saw two bulls fighting in the brush on top of a nearby hill. Hoping that they might come down the hill, I waited, my fingers beginning to go numb. Patience paid off, however; after a few minute the two bulls came down the hill into clear view and resumed their sparring match, fighting for another ten or fifteen minutes right in front of me, the echo of every antler clack filling the still air.
