As the weather begins to warm each spring the grizzlies start to wake up. Typically the big males comes first, and once awake they will venture down into the valleys in search of any animals that succumbed to the winter. This large male grizzly is dining on a bison carcass that it would guard and devour for more than a week. Despite the sometimes gruesome nature of the scene, in watching the behavior of bears I am always reminded that they, too, are just another animal doing their best to survive in an often hostile world.
